Act 2

Today’s post comes from the talented musician singer and songwriter Izzy Rez as he releases his latest single ‘Act 2”. This song speaks about love in our generation or the lack of it, Izzy explains how in society today the chivalry is dead and we use money sex and drugs to substitute for love. Which in turn creates a viscous cycle in relationships, placing value on everything but love. Izzy plans on creating a new lane in RnB, one that uplifts the female spirit and teaches respect and love instead of discrimination and hate. Using his angelic voice as a vessel of light to speak on the social injustices of today while keeping you entertained with flawless production that marries perfectly together. Space Invadaz

Hip-Hop and New Age spirituality may seem like an odd combination, but for the Space Invadaz, rap and the quest for enlightenment go together like Yin and Yang. The Cincinnati, Ohio duo consist of the seasoned vet Donte the GR8 and talented Buggs tha Rocka, two forward-thinking lyricist creating timeless music. The two indigo’s released their debut project titled ‘Contact’ earlier this year, and the philosophical message is golden. Speaking on social injustices and current events as well as topics on corrupted occults and government. All while exploring the concept of opposites: higher and lower self, body and mind, confusion and clarity, peace and war. The first half of ‘Contact’ is the lighter side of the record: mellow in mood and cerebral in subject matter, avoiding empty platitudes by getting autobiographical and letting us know that their own paths to self-discovery and positivity weren’t necessarily straight and narrow. Which ties into the second half, a darker more aggressive tone on the album in which they make clear that they are products of the Cincinnati streets that they were raised in and while their heads are in the clouds they are still very much rooted in the real world. Ultimately Space Invadaz captures balance in their sound by mixing droning bass lines and triplet hi-hats with calm melodic spaciness. Creating music you can relate to as well as turn up. Their high energy tracks are complemented with brash attitude and intricate flows that takes you back to the golden-era of hip hop. Stream this classic below and check out their latest videos for the project as well… as always…

Rest In Power

Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, has died at the age of 69. The northern California police department confirmed her death Tuesday morning. (May 3, 2016) Shakur, a political activist and member of the Black Nationalist group and Black Panther Party, has been an active presence in our nations fight for equality. In 1969 she was arrested for conspiracy in New York, she was accused of plotting to bomb buildings and landmarks, she was later acquitted in 1971 and gave birth to Tupac the month after. Afeni was also the subject in Tupac’s famous song “Dear Mama” which was released in 1995. The single accumulated much success by going platinum and touched the hearts of millions who could relate. She also is credited for being the moderator of Tupac’s estate since his death in 1996, as well as establishing the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which supports art programs for children. Afeni Shakur was a voice for the voiceless, a human activist for the less fortunate and her presence will be missed. We personally want to thank her for all of her efforts and endeavors while living and continue to carry on her message. Rest in Power Afeni Shakur!

New King of Comedy?

In today’s age their has been a surge with youth monetizing their social media accounts and becoming millionaires via the net, but rarely do you hear a story of a formally incarcerated inmate using his social media to turn tragedy into opportunity. Keraun Harris, a Houston native wasn’t always known around the world for his witty 15 seconds of comic relief. At 21 he was sentenced to a two and a half year sentence at The Texas State Petitionary, which served as a wake up call that fueled Keraun to turn his life around. After his release Harris began making comedy skits for vine and YouTube using his ails “King Keraun.” Creating funny and relatable videos about everyday life, relationships and sports. Keraun’s material is priceless and his timing  was perfect, large companies were beginning to shift their marketing and advertising towards network and social media marketing. Needless to say King Keraun’s videos got noticed, first locally then nationally. His videos caught the attention of media mogul Russell Simmons who took Keraun under his wing. His videos became a breeding ground for companies to advertise and brand their products. With 1.4 million IG followers, more than 100 million vine loops and over a million in Facebook likes it’s easy to see why. His wave turned him into an Internet celebrity/sensation overnight, as well as a lucrative businessman. We had the opportunity to cross paths with Keraun briefly at the SXSW music festival and it was nothing but love. Check out his videos below and see what he has to say about DABASSMENT BLOG!
